Our Mission

In collaboration with many partners, the Pollinator Posse develops and encourages pollinator-friendly landscaping and fosters appreciation for local ecosystems through outreach, education, community science and habitat creation. With eco-friendly landscape techniques at the heart of our work, we teach respect for the creatures that keep the world blooming.

We envision a day when life-enhancing, thought-inspiring green spaces will grace every corner locally and the world beyond.

Our History

The Pollinator Posse came together in Oakland, CA in 2012, gathering a community around the issue of pollinator survival in urban settings. Individuals and groups with separate distinguished achievements in the fields of entomology, horticulture, education, public works and volunteer engagement saw an opportunity and accepted the challenge to support the indispensable work of pollinators by expanding habitat and awareness.   With the ongoing support from many donors and volunteers, the Posse has established acres of pollinator habitat, maintained existing habitat and offered outreach and education to communities throughout Northern California and beyond. We continue this work as a a grassroots non-profit operated exclusively by volunteers. In 2024, the Posse expanded it’s reach to Central New Jersey when Posse co-founder, Terry Smith, moved there and continues the work. For more information about our work, see Our Work.
